Americas Sweethearts

Americas Sweethearts PosterUnbelivable! My first movie article in nearly 1 month. My plans to at least watch a few of the Oscar nominations before the actual Oscar happening are completely vanished. I saw a total of three movies in the last 4 weeks, two of those are oldies, like Americas Sweethearts and just one is in fact one of those precious Oscar Nominees. Well, so much for the plans. Luckily I don't care too much about the Oscars itself and I wonder who does anyway? Not just for the fact that tastes are different but have you followed the LOTR insanity through the last 3 years? No, I haven't seen a single one of them, but seeing them carrying out each and every trophy there is raised my doubts about the institution 'Oscars'.

My review about this one nominee I saw and haven't written an article about is coming up in the next days, I will re-view the movie again coming Sunday and post an article asap afterwards. For now we got to stick with the 2 oldies I saw, beginning with this one: Americas Sweethearts. I saw it about 2 weeks ago, my girlfriend was looking for a funny movie to watch and so in the end we chose to watch this one. I have seen it a couple of times already, it's leightweight and funny - perfect entertainment if you ask me. The sad thing about it is that my girlfriend fell asleep about 10 minutes after we started to watch it - which of course didn't stop me from finishing it, still I might have choosen something different if I had knewn that before.

There is one very special reason why Americas Sweethearts works out so well for me, John Cusack. He just is one of the best, tell me what you want. Sure this isn't his best and most glamourous role still it is considerable. Beside him there are Catherine Zeta-Jones, Billy Crystal, Julia Roberts and not to forget in an underpart Christopher Walken. Movies with a cast loaded like that can hardly crash and burn. Especially when they focus on a simple genre like this one, which is comedy/romance.

If you're thinking about watching this one there are only a few things to consider. Do you like the actors? Are you up for light entertainment and a bit of fun? Do you dig watching a romance now and than? If you can answer those questions with yes I only have little doubt that you won't be able to enjoy 'Americas Sweetheats'. I fond myself watching this movie more often than I ever thought I would, but the answer to 'Why?' is actually pretty obvious. It doesn't get lighter than this and sometimes lightness is all I desire.
