DVDSoon: Those were the days...

rev. 1.00

The days of the shopping frenzys over at dvdsoon.com are sadly history. After not sending me any dvds for the last 2 months, DVDSOON a couple of days ago announced their new payment system. Now we finally wouldn't have to pay for our dvds at the date ordered but at the date the dvds got shipped. I must say I never made a big deal out of it, it was alright with me to pay for the dvds right away because DVDSOON delivered all the time, even when it took them some time to get their hands on it.

In a letter DVDSOON informed their customers that due the installation of the new systems all current orders had to be cancelled but the money would be transfrerred into (non-refundable) store credit we could use to buy the same dvds again.

So far so good, here are the first problems:

1) The cancellation of the orders happened at once, the credit entry to my account took days, days in which i thought my whole money went down the drain.

2) With installation of the new payment system DVDSOON raised its prices, the prices of all the dvds I had on order have risen up to 6CAD$ per disc.

3) DVDSOON allows its customers to pay only 25% per store credit on each order, meaning I'd still have to pay another 75% of the dvds I have already paid before.

4) The store credit I have and of that I can only use 25% each order, only lasts a year after which it expires.

5) After installing their new payment system DVDSOON cancelled the Fidelity iCard, which customers could buy for 50 $CAD in order to gain free shipping and an extra store discount (up to 15%) depending on how much you were ordering.

To conclude: DVDSOON wants me to pay the dvds I already bought again for 75% of the price, plus the additional 6$CAD the price has risen meanwhile, plus 5$CAD for shipping, plus a percentage of discont I was getting before.

Hrm, let me think abou that a second.... well... NO THANKS.

DVDSOON pissed off pretty much all of their customers and the news are spreading around the world. This is why I am actually so calm about this, I have friends that have about 250euros in DVDSOON store credit now, which is completely useless, all I am missing are 50 euros.

In case you're interested in reading deeper into the scandal of DVDSOON, here are a few links:

A german link to an detailed transcript of what happend.
A german link containing a sample-letter to your credit-card company.
Another german link to Digital-Movie.de

For further informations try google, you'll find informations everywhere, just STOP immediately giving them any of your money. I think this whole situation would get a lot better if DVDSOON would allow its customers to use the 100% of the store credit on new orders, so the customers could at least get some dvds for the money they've already paid.

It is a long time ago that my friend Philippe called me, all exited telling that he had seen THX 1138 the day before and that I needed to see it right away, as it was one of the biggest surprised he had for a long time. I was quickly convinced and when we

Ah, I know the feeling. Fortunately for me, my credit card provider has already informed me that I will be getting my money back.

If you are interested, you can see a lot of discussion about this and even a little feedback from a DVDSoon staffer on this board:

Nice, thanks for the Link, I read through it previousely but it was before DVDSOON answered any of their questions.

Their answer to this 25% deal is absolutely hilarious, can't belive they truly want to get through with this.

I think it is because HIP Interactive went bankrupt. DVDSoon cannot get the titles for so cheap anymore, so they must charge their customers more.

I am currently filling out an economic crime report at www.recol.ca, so DVDSoon won't be getting off so easily!
