Two for the Money

Two for the Money PosterTwo for the Money is the second movie I saw last Monday. And by saying "I", I mean I by myself, because in this case just after about five minutes my girlfriend already disliked the movie enough to rather start doing something else than following along any futher. Obviously not because it's inexplicably bad, but it's just the type of movies she really can't cope with. I for myself think that it can never be completely wrong to watch a movie featuring Al Pacino, which is exactly why I had quite a few expectations in this one.

'Two for the Money' is a movie about sports betting, something I haven't been familar at all with before actually watching this movie. To be precise the movie is about football betting in the USA, which after all seems to be quite a big business. The movie gives quite a few insights which the audience is allowed to take for real, as the movie is actually based on actual events.

When the character of Al Pacino gets a hold of this young ex-football player who is working at a cheap 1-900 service and who constantly seems to have a high percentage of guessing the correct results of the games, he quickly recruits him. Soon after he shows him around in the big-business his neck for him turns out to have been correct. His new employee, played by Matthew McConaughey does deliver him the highest percentage of correct guesses he ever had. The news quickly spread and his customers and cashflow highly increase.

In some point of the movie this streak obviously breakes, customers who lost a lot of money heavily complain, and some even threaten the characters personally. Additional to that there is some sort of sub-plot about the two leading characters building up a strong friendship, wich also starts to struggle when the winning streak breakes down.

Topic wise I thought the movie was pretty interesting, on the otherhand the story reminded me a lot of John Grishams The Firm even if it's about an entirely different topic. The appearances of the leading roles aren't extraordinary, but still very nice and they help the movie a lot. I certainly know that I wouldn't want to watch the movie for another time, but I definitely know that for this one time, it was completely alright.
