Saturday, June 24. 2006 Most of you know that I am buying lots of dvds all the time, what some of you might not know is that I am selling many of them aswell. Often when I buy a dvd out of curiosity it goes straight from my to-watch to my to-sell shelf and once the time has come, they all wander off to eBay. Whenever I am close to an eBay selling spree, I take a suspicious look through my whole collection, trying to find movies that don't belong there and if I find something I am not entirely sure about, I just pick it out and re-watch it to figure out if it's worth it's place in it. Boys and Girls is such a movie, somehow looking misplaced in something I try to call a 'well sorted' collection. This obviously doesn't mean anything as long as I haven't veryfied it. I mean, there must be a reason why it's standing there and once I started watching it, I very soon knew what it was - Claire Forlani. I am not too sure about her other movies, but there is no doubt that she looks absolutely radiant inside this one. In fact when watching 'Boys and Girls' I had to get myself together a couple of times, reminding me that just because of her beauty the storyline doesn't get any better. The movie tells the story of a couple of friends, a boy and a girl that get to be close friends eventhough their views and ideas about life and love seem completely contrary. In the end the obvious happens, they end up in bed together and find their relationship shattered right the next morning. Left by themselves they try figure out why and how this happened and soon have to face the question if they really did fall in love with each other after all. I was surprised to find out that the storyline wasn't as bad as I had expected, of course it isn't good either, but I thought it was watchable. I was sure I'd see something very cheesy, corny and maybe even unbearable and was quite surprised to find it watchable. Having said that, I don't want you to go and check it out, but in case there is no way around watching this movie, it'll definitely won't kill you - and in case you fall in love with Claire just like I did, there even is a chance you might have a good time watching it. Nevetheless it was right to pick out 'Boys and Girls', because it is one of those dvds that haven't earned their place inside my collection. Freddy Prinze Jr. is just not a very good actor and especially in a leading role everything but credible. The very small role of Jason Biggs is nothing but a farce, he plays the role of the comedian/clown and is supposed to add the funny potion to this movie, which sadly feels completely unnecessary. 'Boys and Girls' isn't a good movie, you don't have to and probably shouldn't watch it. Then again it is watchable and on some level even entertaining. The dvd will obviously soon leave my appartment to find its way into the house of somebody who will hopefuly be able to enjoy it much more than I did. Trackbacks
